Pattern Power: Exploring Maths Through Play in Senior Infants
As part of Maths Week, our Senior Infants took part in a range of exciting practical activities focused on exploring patterns during our maths stations. The children worked collaboratively in small groups, rotating between different stations that encouraged them to create and extend patterns using a variety of materials. At the bead station, pupils threaded colourful beads to make repeating patterns such as red-blue-red-blue, while the links station allowed them to connect plastic links in different colour sequences. Using dominoes, the children identified and continued number and colour patterns, and at the peg board station, they arranged pegs in rows and shapes to design their own unique repeating patterns. These hands-on activities made Maths Week both engaging and educational, helping the children to strengthen their understanding of sequencing, colour recognition, and fine motor skills—all while having lots of fun exploring maths in a creative way.
